Dean of Faculty Adab and Humanities

Saiful Umam, Ph.D

Saiful Umam is the dean of the Adab and Humanities Faculty, UIN Jakarta in 2019-2023. He is a lecturer at the faculty since 1996. He graduated from undergraduate education at IAIN Jakarta in 1990, then continued his masters studies and obtained an MA in Middle Eastern Studies at Princeton University, United States in 1996. In 2011, he obtained his doctoral degree of history in the Department of History, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, United States. Among his publicactions are, “God’s Mercy is not Limited to Arabic Speakers: Reading Intellectual Biography of Mohammad Salih Darat and His Pegon Text” (Studia Islamika , 2011) and “Controversies Surrounding the Aceh’s Sultanahs: Understanding the Relationship between Islam and Female Leadership (Journal of Indonesian Islam, 2013).

Dr. Amelia Fauzia

Amelia Fauzia is a historian specialising in Islam in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, with expertise on Islamic philanthropy. Her main research topics include social movements, social change, women, and civil society. She is a senior lecturer at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta and Visiting Fellow at School of Humanities & Social Sciences, UNSW. From September 2015 to August 2018, she was a senior research fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore, where she conducted research on networks of Islamic philanthropy in Southeast Asia. She received her MA (1998) from the University of Leiden and PhD from the University of Melbourne (2009). Among her publications are ‘Faith and the State: A History of Islamic Philanthropy in Indonesia’ (EJ Brill, 2013), ‘Islamic Orientation in Contemporary Indonesia: Islamism on the Rise?’ with M.Sakai, (Asian Ethnicity, 2014), and ‘Penolong Kesengsaraaan Umum: The Charitable Activism of Muhammadiyah during the Colonial Period’ (South East Asia Research, 2017), and ‘Waqf Making and Commercial Cemeteries: Religious Circulation and Commodification of the Economy of Giving’, (The Muslim World,  2018).

Mukmin Suprayogi, M. Si

Mukmin Suprayogi, M. Si was born in Jakarta, 1 March 1962. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Chinese literature at Universitas Indonesia (1985). Looking his interest about library, then he took another bachelor’s degree at the same campus majoring Library Science. His Master’s degree was obtained in Archival Science, Universitas Indonesia (2001). Besides being a lecturer at the Departement of Library Science, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, he is also the Secretary of the Master’s Programme in Islamic History And Civilization, Faculty Of Adab And Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Among his publications are ‘Profesi Pustakawan (superhighway to heaven)’ (Al Maktabah, 2003), ‘Peran Internet bagi Pustakawan’ (Marsela: Jurnal Ikatan Pustakawan Indonesia, 2010), ‘Perpustakaan dan Perjalanan Hidup’ (Intisari No.558, 2010).
